Meet the Apra Pennsylvania Board of Directors

Secretary

Meadow Fallon, Project Manager, Prospect Research

The Environmental Defense Fund

How many years have you worked in fundraising/prospect research?

I've been in fundraising for 13 years, and in prospect research for nearly 8.

Briefly summarize your background:

I started out in gift processing at a local animal shelter before moving on to higher ed at the University of Pittsburgh. After jumping into prospect research there and then moving on to grateful patient prospect research in a related unit, my next step was George Washington University as a prospect liaison, before a promotion to associate director of my unit. Finally, in the summer of '23, I fulfilled a lifelong dream to move into environmental work, taking a job as Project Manager, Prospect Research at the Environmental Defense Fund.

How long have you served on the Apra PA board, and what inspired you to join?

I am just joining now in January '24, and my inspiration was all the great programming I've been able to attend virtually over the last few years! I just wanted to find a way to get involved & be a part of these cool things.

Do you have a favorite research tool, site, or trick you can share?

I have recently learned more about the 5% annualized distribution rule for foundations, and I am loving estimating whether or not a family foundation will be ramping up their grantmaking soon & being able to inform fundraisers if this should factor into their strategies!

What is your prospect development "superpower"?

Brainstorming - one of my favorite things to do is look at a problem (or opportunity for improvement) and think of all the possibilities and find the best way to approach it/solve it/improve it, how to implement it, and then make it happen!

What is your bucket list vacation destination and why?

This is so hard, because I have so many places I want to go! Exploring Scotland is our next planned big trip, because something about the country just calls to me!

What is your favorite book, movie, or TV show, and why?

I have no idea how to narrow any of these down to just one! I have so many favorites! Why? I am easily transported by fiction and find that anything that moves me or that I can identify strongly with will always stay close to my heart as a favorite!
